How to make…Ribbon & Button Bookmarks

Evening everyone, I hope that you have had a nice weekend, its seemed very warm here after such a cold few days!

I have been busy today with various craft projects, and one I wanted to try out were these bookmarks. They are so simple, you only need a few things and they dont take very long to make, plus you could have a go at making these with older children which I think they would really enjoy.

What you will need:

  • Ribbon
  • 1 Button per bookmark
  • 1 hair elastic per bookmark
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Scissors

  1. Cut a length of ribbon – how long will depend on the size of the book – you want it to be long enough so that the ribbon and elastic together will stretch around the whole book but not so long that when you are marking the early chapters it is slack!
  2. Place one end of the ribbon over the elastic (aim to cover the join in the elastic) and stitch in place. Try and stitch it as close to the elastic as possible as that way the elastic cant move around

3. Sew on a button at the other end of the ribbon – aim to fasten it on so that when you fold the ribbon over to catch the elastic over the button the stitching of the elastic is on the under side.4. Finally I just cut off a little ribbon to make it into a point so it didnt poke out the side of the buttons as I thought this looked tidier.

And thats it, all done! As easy as that! You are now ready to get reading!

Have a go and let me know what you think 🙂
